Artist in Residence Program

Each year the Riverfolk committee selects participants to work with a professional artist in an "Artist-in-Residence" program.

Participants will spend 30 to 40 hours working side-by-side with a professional artist. This "hands on" experience provides students the opportunity to create original artwork, with the guidance of a professional, while learning techniques and skills necessary to produce a professional piece of art.

Students learn:
  • Advanced artistic techniques from a professional artist
  • Process of subject selection and artistic composition
  • Lifestyle and occupation of a working artist

Participants receive recognition of their efforts in festival publicity, certificate of completion at the end of the Artist in Residence program, free admission to the festival and they may keep a sample of their work.

Requirement:
  • Commitment to arrive on time and complete all assigned tasks
  • Setup a booth or prepare exhibit to display the final works at the Festival
  • Encouraged, but not required, to utilize cultural, architectural, or natural landmarks of the community as a part of their design such as barns, farms, river, downtown, parks, history, etc.
