FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Event Locations?

The Jam Camp and Dance Party are held in Manchester.  The rural setting of Sharon Mills is ideal for a jam camp with its convenient and quiet location along the River Raisin.  You can even take a break to kayak into town or fish for river pike if you so desire.  The Songwriting Contest and Finale Concert are held at The Ark. it's a great place to see a concert. Small, quaint little place. Not a bad seat in the house. Great acoustics.

Camp Housing?

Jam Camp housing is on your own.  Most attendees to the Jam Camp stay in local hotels or they camp at the Walter Hayes Campground.  We are able to place some folks in a billeting situation (shared housing) to save you costs, but we cannot do that for everyone.  Please inquire if you would like help matching up your housing needs.  We can assist you or answer questions.

Weather?

Michigan is known for its wonderful weather in August.  It can get hot but we have ways to cool down at the camp and in the past few years we have not had a problem with the bugs.  Rain is never an issue because the Sharon Mills Camp has a large pavilion, we have several tents, and the mill house is great for jams and lessons.

Evenings?

If you participate in the Jam Camp your admission to the Dance Party & Finale is included in your fee.  The campers will be participating in evening events which includes a public performance with the Faculty & Staff, and a Barbecue & Bonfire Jam.  You will have fun getting to know the faculty & staff and other campers and you can look for ward to a "performance" along side the masters on stage.

Traveling?

Manchester Village is a historic rural town in SE Michigan conveniently located 39 miles from the Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Sharon Mills Camp, the site of The Jam Camp, is located just outside Manchester.  Unfortunately there are no hotels in Manchester (we're is a bit too small it seems) so, the hotels are located in Chelsea, Clinton, or Ann Arbor.

Bring?

What we suggest you bring...
Your instrument of course and a tuner.  A recording device is highly recommended if you want to capture some fine music sessions at the camp, or breakdown of an instructor's lesson. Attendees have permission to video-tape or tape-record all instructor lessons.  Remember to bring rain gear and bug spray (just in case).
